| 257 | From: "Alison Baker" Subject: Attrill, Drudge and Borne Date: Fri, 24 Feb 2006 10:18:21 +1100 Hi everyone, I have posted my surname interests in the past but have now been able to go a little further back thanks to the help of the IOW record office. My main connection with the island was through John ATTRILL who married Elizabeth BORNE in 1850 at Portsea. They were both born on the island, John at Bonchurch in 1827 and Elizabeth in Newport around 1831. I had their fathers names from the marriage certificate. Mark ATTRILL and William BORNE. I now know that John was the son of Mark ATTRILL and Sarah DRUDGE. They were married at Northwood in 1811. Mark was a widower from Calbourne but I don't know who his first wife was. There were 6 children: Mark (Christened 1812), Osmund (1815), Ann (1816), Eliza (1818) , Ellen (1820) and my John (1827). When John was christened the family were living at Donor Farm in the parish of Carisbrooke. Has anyone heard of this farm? Elizabeth BORNE was the daughter of William and Elizabeth BORNE of Newport. Elizabeth and her sisters, Amelia, Martha and Jane were all baptised in 1832 in Newport. Amelia was aged 1 month, Elizabeth 2 years, Martha 6 years and Jane 14 years. If any of these names ring any bells for anyone, I'd love to hear from you. Alison Baker Melbourne, Australia. Researching: ATTRILL, BORNE and now DRUDGE from the IOW. | ATTRILL, John William (I0196)

Enlisted in 1921 (Ref 852095 Page 126b) He worked as a chauffeur for Lord Hall in Surrey. He met his future wife, Rhoda, when he was working as head chauffeur for the Tiarcks family. There were several reconciliations and the family moved regularly - including to South Harrow and Greenford (Middlesex).
